1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Hippo ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. If you do not agree to abide by the above, please do not use this service.

2. Description of Service

Hippo is a personal knowledge management system that allows you to:

• Store and organize personal information, notes, contacts, and experiences (data you manually enter)
• Interact with your data through an AI-powered assistant
• Optionally integrate with Google Calendar to include events in AI conversations (accessed in real-time, never stored)
• Optionally integrate with Google Tasks for productivity context in AI responses (accessed in real-time, never stored)
• Optionally integrate with specific Google Drive documents through our secure file picker for enhanced AI context (accessed in real-time, never stored)
• Generate a personal website from your organized data
• Access your information through a web-based interface

3. User Accounts and Registration

3.1 Account Creation

• You must have a Google account to use Hippo
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account
• You must provide accurate and complete information during registration
• You may not create multiple accounts for the same person

3.2 Account Security

• You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these terms

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 Permitted Use

You may use Hippo for:

• Personal knowledge management and organization
• Storing legitimate personal information and data
• AI-assisted information retrieval and analysis
• Creating personal websites from your data

4.2 Prohibited Use

You may NOT use Hippo for:

• Storing illegal, harmful, or offensive content
• Violating any applicable laws or regulations
• Infringing on intellectual property rights of others
• Storing sensitive financial information (credit cards, bank details)
• Sharing copyrighted material without permission
• Attempting to reverse engineer or exploit the service
• Storing malicious code or attempting to harm our systems
• Creating spam or unsolicited commercial content

5. Content and Data

5.1 Your Content

• You retain ownership of all content you store in Hippo
• You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of your content
• You grant us the right to store, process, and display your content as necessary to provide the service
• You can export or delete your content at any time

5.2 AI-Generated Content

• AI responses are generated based on your stored data and may not always be accurate
• You should verify important information before relying on AI responses
• AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes only

6. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of personal information in connection with the Service is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

7. Google Services Integration

7.1 Google OAuth

• Authentication is provided through Google OAuth 2.0
• Basic authentication only requires profile information
• All additional Google services integrations require separate authorization
• You can use Hippo with only basic authentication - all Google integrations are optional

7.2 Google Calendar (Optional - Real-Time Access Only)

• Calendar integration is entirely optional
• We only access calendar data you explicitly authorize
• You can revoke calendar access at any time through your Google Account settings
• Calendar data is used only to enhance your AI conversations and daily summaries
• We access calendar events with read-only permissions
• Calendar data is NEVER stored or cached on our servers - it's fetched fresh from Google each time

7.3 Google Tasks (Optional - Real-Time Access Only)

• Google Tasks integration is entirely optional
• We access your task lists with read-only permissions
• Task information is used to provide productivity context in AI responses
• You can revoke Google Tasks access at any time through your Google Account settings
• Tasks data is NEVER stored or cached on our servers - it's fetched fresh from Google each time

7.4 Google Docs (Optional - Real-Time Access Only)

• Google Docs integration is entirely optional
• We access only documents you explicitly authorize by providing their URLs or IDs
• Docs integration enables enhanced document context for AI responses
• We use read-only permissions for document access
• You can revoke Google Docs access at any time through your Google Account settings
• Document data is NEVER stored or cached on our servers - it's fetched fresh from Google each time
• We do NOT browse your Google Drive - we only access documents you explicitly provide to us

8. Service Availability

8.1 Uptime

• We strive to maintain high service availability but cannot guarantee 100% uptime
• We may perform maintenance that temporarily interrupts service
• We will provide reasonable notice for planned maintenance when possible

8.2 Service Changes

• We reserve the right to modify or discontinue features at any time
• We will provide reasonable notice for significant changes
• Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of changes

9. Intellectual Property

9.1 Our Rights

• Hippo's software, design, and technology are our intellectual property
• You may not copy, modify, or distribute our software or services
• Our trademarks and logos are protected and may not be used without permission

9.2 Your Rights

• You retain all rights to content you create and store in Hippo
• You can export your data in standard formats
• You may share your generated website as you choose

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

• THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND
• WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES
• OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS
• WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DATA LOSS, THOUGH WE IMPLEMENT REASONABLE BACKUP PROCEDURES

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hippo and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

• Your use of the service
• Your violation of these terms
• Your violation of any third-party rights
• Content you store or share through the service

12. Termination

12.1 By You

• You may terminate your account at any time
• Upon termination, your data will be deleted according to our privacy policy
• You can export your data before termination

12.2 By Us

• We may terminate accounts that violate these terms
• We may suspend service for technical or security reasons
• We will provide reasonable notice when possible

13. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service shall be resolved through binding arbitration.

14. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:

• Posting the updated terms on this page
• Updating the "Last Updated" date
• Providing notice through the service when you next log in

Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
